In short: from 1 July 2026, Albanian pensions were increased by 2.7% for about 900,000 recipients. For people whose pension starts from 1 January 2026, it is calculated on a wage base revalued by 6.4%.
The 2.7% indexation from 1 July 2026
On 26 June 2026 the Albanian government approved a 2.7% indexation of pensions, effective 1 July. Indexation usually came in October; this year it was brought forward because inflation went above 3%. In 2025 the increase was 2.5%.
- Recipients: about 900,000 people. According to minister Delina Ibrahimaj, it covers old-age pensions, special pensions and maternity benefits, among others.
- Urban pension: on average about 543 lek more per month, from an average of 20,123 lek at the end of 2025.
- Rural pension: on average about 320 lek more per month, from an average of 11,878 lek.
A new base for pensions starting from 2026
On 24 April 2026 the government approved a 6.4% revaluation of the 2024 assessed base, which is used to calculate the first pension amount so that it better reflects the contributions paid.
- It applies to pensions where the entitlement arises from 1 January 2026. According to ISSH, about 40,000 new applicants are affected.
- It covers contribution periods from 1994; older wages are revalued with the coefficients in the decision.
- Limits: for 1994–2001 wages the base cannot exceed three times the minimum wage; from 2002 the cap is the maximum wage.
What it means for you
- If you will apply for a pension in 2026: check that your work periods and contributions are complete on e-Albania. Missing older years are the most common problem.
- If you also worked abroad: gather the documents for those periods now, and check whether your country has a social security agreement with Albania.
- If you already receive a pension: the indexation is applied by ISSH; you don't need to apply.
